A recent trip with my Marine studies class mates up north to the Tutukaka coast. We spent a day out with Dive Tutukaka out at Poor Knight Islands. Great diving and beautiful area !
So we spent the night with a family that have brought up three children without the modern schooling system and live a practical lifestyle. Even within the first minute of meeting the kids they were interacting with us like we knew them from birth. Fully inquisitive and not scared or shy to place their judgment. As the young girls took us for a tour to find some wild horses, this one above took every opportunity to take advantage of the wet weather and after sliding in the mud deciding to rinse off in the horse trough.
Things like that don't happen enough with children these days. Nurtured children are steered away from anything that might "hurt" them and will grow up never experiencing actual experiences that may shape themselves or their understanding for risk and respect.
To the family who let us stay on their farm, I give my congratulations to having such happy respecting children, providing time to help shape and teach the children things other then the school curriculum.
I will definitely be back up the the Poor Knights for a photography mission, some crazy underwater life!!
